Parties divided on national flag

Political parties have found a new issue to lock their horns- national flag.

The parties are divided on whether to retain the current flag or design a new one as the country has gone through a drastic political change.

Main opposition Unified CPN (Maoist), Rastriya Janamorcha and Dalit Janajati Party have put forth proposal for changing national flag. The Maoist party has proposed new design of national flag with stars at par with the number of states.

However, Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, among others, opposed the idea saying the existing flag is good enough to identify Nepal.

Following this difference in the sub-committee of the CA committee on state restructuring, the parties are likely to delay the draft concept paper.
